Granite Surface plate
1. Establishing the reference zero point: When setting up the fixture, place the workpiece and measuring tools (such as a height gauge) on the plate simultaneously. As the plate is extremely flat, you can define its surface as the $0.000$ coordinate, thereby accurately measuring the height and position of the fixture.
2. Checking perpendicularity and parallelism: With the aid of a granite square or a right angle square, you can verify whether the columns of the fixture are perpendicular to the base or if multiple locating pins are on the same horizontal line.
3. Precise assembly: Many high-precision fixtures (such as those for semiconductors or aerospace parts) undergo slight deformation when the screws are tightened. Assembly on a plate allows for continuous monitoring of these minute changes with a dial indicator, ensuring assembly accuracy.
4. Tool presetting: In conjunction with a tool setter on the plate, you can preset the length and diameter of the tool without occupying machine time.
