Granite Precision Spirit Level – Accurate Bar-Type Level for Machine Installation & Calibration

Granite Precision Spirit Level – Usage Guide

A granite precision spirit level (also known as a machinist’s bar-type level) is an essential measuring tool in precision machining, machine tool alignment, and equipment installation. It is designed to accurately check the flatness and levelness of work surfaces.

This tool features:

  • V-shaped granite base – serves as the working surface, ensuring high flatness and stability.

  • Bubble vial (spirit tube) – perfectly parallel to the working surface for accurate readings.

Working Principle

When the level’s base is placed on a perfectly horizontal surface, the bubble inside the vial rests exactly at the center between the zero lines. The vial typically has at least 8 graduations on each side, with 2 mm spacing between marks.

If the base tilts slightly:

  • The bubble moves toward the higher end due to gravity.

  • Small tilt → slight bubble movement.

  • Larger tilt → more noticeable bubble displacement.

By observing the bubble’s position relative to the scale, the operator can determine the height difference between two ends of the surface.
