Granite Surface Plate Setup and Calibration Guide

Granite surface plates are essential tools for precision measurement and inspection in both industrial production and laboratory environments. Due to their composition of naturally aged minerals, granite plates offer excellent uniformity, stability, and high strength, making them capable of maintaining precise measurements under heavy loads. The high hardness and durability of granite ensure long-term accuracy, even in challenging working conditions.

Granite Surface Plate Setup Procedure:

  1. Initial Positioning
Place the granite surface plate flat on the ground and check the stability of all four corners. Adjust the adjustable feet to ensure the plate is securely positioned and balanced.

  2. Placing on Supports
Move the plate onto support brackets and adjust the position of the supports to achieve a centrally-symmetric setup. This ensures an even distribution of weight across the surface plate.

  3. Initial Foot Adjustment
Adjust the height of each support leg to ensure that the plate is evenly supported at all points, with uniform weight distribution.

  4. Leveling the Plate
Use a spirit level or electronic level to check the horizontal alignment of the surface plate. Make slight adjustments to the feet until the surface is perfectly level.

  5. Settling Time
After the initial adjustments, leave the granite surface plate undisturbed for approximately 12 hours. This ensures that any settling or minor shifts have occurred. After this period, re-check the leveling. If the plate is not level, repeat the adjustment process until it meets the required specifications.

  6. Periodic Maintenance
Regularly check and calibrate the surface plate based on its operating environment and usage frequency. Periodic inspections ensure that the surface plate remains accurate and stable for continued use.
