Maintenance and Operating Guidelines for Granite Surface Plates

Before using a granite surface plate, ensure that it is properly leveled, and then clean it with a soft cloth to remove any dust and debris (or wipe the surface with an alcohol-soaked cloth for a thorough clean). Keeping the surface plate clean is essential to maintain its accuracy and prevent contamination that could affect measurement precision.

The lighting intensity in the measurement area of the granite surface plate should meet a minimum of 500 LUX. For areas such as warehouses or quality control offices where precision measurement is critical, the required lighting intensity should be at least 750 LUX.

When placing a workpiece on the granite surface plate, do so gently to avoid any impact that could damage the plate. The weight of the workpiece should not exceed the plate’s rated load capacity, as doing so could degrade the platform’s accuracy and potentially cause structural damage, resulting in deformation and loss of functionality.

While using the granite surface plate, handle the workpieces with care. Avoid moving rough or heavy workpieces across the surface to prevent any scratches or dents that could damage the plate.

For precise measurements, allow the workpiece and any necessary measuring tools to acclimate to the temperature of the granite surface plate for at least 30 minutes before beginning the measurement process. After use, remove the workpiece promptly to avoid prolonged pressure on the plate, which could lead to deformation over time.
