Will Precision Granite Components Be Easily Damaged in Humid Workshop Environments?

Many procurement specialists and equipment engineers share a common concern: will core components such as precision granite bases and measuring platforms suffer moisture damage and rapid accuracy degradation if deployed in workshops with high humidity? Many simply equate stone materials with porous rocks prone to water absorption, assuming humid conditions will permanently ruin granite reference parts. However, the real answer is not straightforward. It largely hinges on raw stone quality, rough block treatment processes and finished-product surface protection.

Natural stones vary greatly in pore structure. Low-grade marble is full of micro-pores. When kept in long-term high-humidity environments, water vapor continuously penetrates into the stone, gradually triggering water erosion and weathering. Its surface will turn sandy, and the flatness of the reference surface deteriorates over time, even accompanied by partial swelling deformation. This explains why many low-cost stone gauges lose precision only half a year after use in humid workshops.
