Large Granite Base: Moisture-proof and Corrosion-resistant to Reduce Equipment Maintenance Pressure

Precision gantry platforms and optical inspection equipment are often placed in workshops or laboratories, where moisture, cutting fluid mist and volatile acid-base substances are common. Metal bases are vulnerable to environmental erosion. Cast iron bases gradually rust, and anti-corrosion coatings on steel structures peel off under long-term vibration and temperature cycles. Progressive corrosion changes the geometry of the base and causes datum drift, requiring regular rust removal and repainting, which brings heavy maintenance workload. ZHHIMG large granite bases leverage the stable chemical properties of natural stone to deliver excellent moisture and corrosion resistance, greatly cutting later maintenance work and operational costs.

Granite is a dense aggregate of silicate minerals with extremely low porosity, so water molecules hardly penetrate into the stone matrix. Compared with ordinary stone, ZHHIMG selects granite blank with density of 3100kg/m³. After sufficient aging and precision machining, finely ground surfaces form a compact sealed layer that resists moisture absorption. In workshops with fluctuating humidity, the base will not expand by absorbing water like porous materials. Humidity variation barely triggers dimensional change. Even under long-term humid conditions, the reference surface will not swell or deform. If coolant splashes occasionally on site, simple wiping is enough, and water will not penetrate the stone to induce precision shift.

Granite maintains stable chemical properties when exposed to common corrosive media in workshops. Cutting emulsions, weak acid and alkaline cleaners, airborne salt spray or chemical vapors do not trigger chemical erosion on granite surfaces. When metal bases contact these substances, oxidation and corrosion gradually develop. Corrosion pits keep expanding and destroy the mounting datum. ZHHIMG granite bases require no anti-corrosion paint. There is no risk of protection failure caused by aging or peeling coatings. Even with long-term exposure to such media, the surface will not suffer pitting or spalling, and geometric accuracy remains stable over time.

Coating-free protection eliminates precision risks brought by paint layers. Many metal bases rely on paint for rust prevention. Coatings introduce thickness tolerance. Vibration during machine operation causes cracking and peeling. Flaking debris may contaminate optical parts and linear guides. ZHHIMG granite bases gain moisture and corrosion resistance intrinsically. No protective coating is needed. Datum surfaces are directly lapped. There is no coating thickness interfering with assembly accuracy, nor debris contamination from peeling paint. Periodic maintenance work such as cleaning and recoating anti-corrosion layers is removed.                                                                                                                                                                                                             precision-granite-for-OLED-equipment6 (1)

Embedded threaded inserts inside the granite base stay stable under humid and corrosive conditions. Thread holes on metal bases easily rust and seize in damp environments. Bolts become hard to remove during module or fixture replacement. Forced twisting often damages threads. Threaded inserts embedded in ZHHIMG bases are made of corrosion-resistant metal matching application conditions. Isolated by the granite matrix from moisture, threads rarely rust. Bolts can be assembled and disassembled repeatedly without seizure, facilitating later equipment upgrade and module replacement and reducing repair work caused by rusted threads.

Before delivery, ZHHIMG cleans and densifies granite base surfaces to seal tiny pores and improve penetration resistance. Environmental tests simulating humid and lightly corrosive conditions are performed to verify dimensional stability. During operation, only simple wiping is required for daily care. Regular rust and corrosion maintenance is unnecessary. Equipment downtime for maintenance is reduced, and the whole precision system can run continuously for longer periods.
