Moisture Absorption Rate Test: Why Granite Outperforms Mineral Casting in Humid Workshop Environments

High-humidity production workshops, coastal cleanrooms and environmental test equipment pose tough challenges to precision substrates. Mineral casting materials contain a large number of tiny gaps inside, which easily absorb moisture from the air. Moisture absorption triggers dimensional swelling, internal stress changes, ion precipitation and surface coating peeling, resulting in continuous precision drift. In contrast, ZHHIMG’s exclusive high-density black granite stands out via strict moisture absorption rate testing, showing far superior humidity resistance to mineral casting and becoming the preferred base for humid working conditions.
Our proprietary black granite features a dense crystal structure with a density of 3100kg/m³, with native water absorption controlled below 0.08%. Rigorous moisture absorption comparison tests are conducted in the company’s constant temperature & humidity laboratory: under long-term high humidity cycling, mineral casting absorbs obvious moisture and expands visibly, while ZHHIMG granite barely absorbs water, without size fluctuation or internal microcracks. Many small manufacturers use low-grade marble with loose texture and high water absorption, which quickly deforms in humid workshops; ZHHIMG firmly rejects such inferior substitutes and adheres to the tenet “No cheating, No concealment, No misleading”.                                        Metrology Maintenance
All raw granite undergoes 7-day pure water immersion pre-treatment before processing to discharge free soluble ions and close tiny pores. After nano polishing (Ra ≤0.05μm), each granite workpiece is coated with our proprietary low-ion sealing layer. The dense coating further blocks moisture penetration, forming double protection together with the compact stone matrix. This two-layer structure fundamentally avoids the moisture-induced defects that plague mineral casting bases, such as coating blistering and internal efflorescence.
Moisture absorption rate testing is a mandatory pre-delivery inspection item at ZHHIMG. Combined with German Mahr gauges, WYLER levels and Renishaw laser interferometers, technicians record dimensional changes before and after humidity cycling to verify stability. All test instruments are calibrated by Shandong and Jinan Metrology Institutes, with full data archived under unique workpiece traceability codes, complying with DIN, ASME, JIS and GB global metrology standards.
Testing and production are finished inside our 10,000㎡ vibration-isolated constant temperature & humidity workshop, built with 1000mm thick ultra-hard concrete floors and 2000mm deep anti-vibration trenches. Veteran grinders with over 30 years of manual polishing experience optimize surface smoothness to reduce water vapor adhesion.
