Precision Black Granite Machine Base with T-Shaped Component Module
Here's the question every equipment designer eventually confronts: why not just use cast iron or welded steel for the machine base?
The answer lives in the thermal behavior of your production environment.
Cast iron machine bases are heavy and relatively stiff, but they oxidize over time. Uncoated cast iron surfaces degrade, and even coated surfaces can develop flatness drift as the casting settles and the coating ages. More critically, cast iron has essentially no inherent damping — vibrations from cutting forces, spindle imbalance, and rapid axis accelerations ring through the structure and appear as surface finish errors on your workpiece.
Steel welded bases solve the oxidation problem but amplify the vibration problem. Welded steel is stiffer than cast iron but transmits vibration even more readily. And welded steel bases develop residual stress from the welding process — heat-affected zones distort over months of thermal cycling, and your precision machine slowly drifts out of tolerance without any obvious cause.
Granite solves both problems simultaneously. ZHHIMG® black granite has natural internal damping — vibration energy dissipates through micro-friction at the grain boundaries of the crystalline structure. The material doesn't corrode. It doesn't yield plastically under load. And with a thermal expansion coefficient of approximately 5-8 × 10⁻⁶/°C, ZHHIMG® granite bases maintain dimensional stability across typical factory thermal cycles. At our specification of <0.001 mm/°C thermal drift, a 10°C shift from morning startup to peak operation introduces less than 10 μm of dimensional change — that's Grade 1 territory, not catastrophic.
The weight-to-damping ratio of dense granite is simply unmatched by metallic alternatives for precision equipment foundations.

Natural Vibration Damping
The crystalline grain structure of ZHHIMG® black granite absorbs and dissipates vibration energy without transmitting it to your workpiece. This isn't engineered damping — it's physics built into the material over millions of years.
Sub-Micron Flatness, Held for Decades
A properly maintained ZHHIMG® granite surface retains its reference geometry for years. No lapping. No scraping. No recoating. The material's dimensional stability means your inspection-grade surface plate or machine base stays in tolerance far longer than any metallic alternative.
Custom Configurations Without Compromise
This T-shaped component is one example. ZHHIMG® manufactures custom granite components in virtually any configuration: dovetail slides, angular plates, C-frame structures, and complex assembly bases with integrated datum features. You provide the drawings; ZHHIMG® delivers precision-ground granite to your tolerances.
Multi-Standard Certification, One Supplier
ZHHIMG® holds ISO9001:2015, ISO45001, ISO14001, and CE marking — the only company in this industry with all four. Every custom component ships with calibration documentation traceable to PTB, NPL, or NIST through Shandong Provincial Metrology Institute.
Scalability for OEM Programs
Monthly capacity of 20,000 sets of 5,000mm granite precision beds means ZHHIMG® can handle your prototype runs and your high-volume OEM orders from the same production line, with the same quality system, with full traceability.
We use various techniques during this process:
● Optical measurements with autocollimators
● Laser interferometers and laser trackers
● Electronic inclination levels (precision spirit levels)
1. Documents together with products: Inspection reports + Calibration reports(measuring devices) + Quality Certificate + Invoice + Packing List + Contract + Bill of Lading(or AWB).

Can you manufacture custom granite components with specific hole patterns?
Yes. ZHHIMG® produces fully custom granite machine base components and assemblies. Provide your CAD drawings or technical specifications — dimensions, hole locations, datum references, flatness requirements, and any surface treatment needs. ZHHIMG® engineering will confirm manufacturability and provide a technical quotation within 24-48 hours.
What is the maximum size for a single-piece granite component?
ZHHIMG® maximum single-piece processing dimensions are 20,000 mm length × 4,000 mm width × 1,000 mm thickness. For larger structures, ZHHIMG® can produce segmented assemblies that are doweled and ground to achieve monolithic-equivalent flatness across the full reference surface.
How do I specify the flatness grade for a custom component?
Specify the flatness grade per your application requirement and target standard. Grade 00 (≤0.5 μm/m) is for metrology-grade reference surfaces. Grade 0 (≤1 μm/m) suits most precision machine tool bases. Grade 1 (≤2 μm/m) is appropriate for general industrial applications. If you're unsure, ZHHIMG® engineering will recommend based on your equipment type and operating environment.
What surface treatment options are available?
Standard surface finish is precision-ground. Optional treatments include: lapped finish for maximum flatness, polished finish for aesthetic or optical applications, and anti-slip ground finish for non-precision surfaces. Threaded inserts (as shown in this product) use high-strength industrial adhesive bonding with mechanical keying for permanent, vibration-resistant installation.
What documentation is included with custom OEM orders?
Every custom component ships with: dimensional inspection report, flatness measurement data, material certificate (density and mineral composition), surface finish characterization, and calibration certificate traceable to national metrology institutes. OEM buyers can request custom documentation packages to match their quality system requirements, including FAI (First Article Inspection) reports and PPAP documentation.
What are the typical lead times for custom granite components?
Lead times range from 2 weeks for standard-configured components with common dimensions, to 6-8 weeks for complex custom geometries requiring extensive tooling setup and multi-step grinding. Complex assemblies with tight flatness tolerances (Grade 00) may require 8-12 weeks due to the measurement-verification cycles involved. Rush production is available for time-critical OEM programs.
