Custom Precision Granite Assembly with Upright | ZHHIMG
Precision equipment can only be as accurate as whatever it sits on. This custom granite assembly gives you a stable base and a rigid vertical reference in one piece of stone. It combines a ground black granite base plate, an upright with machined slots and a large window, embedded threaded inserts and four steel support cones. We machine, check and assemble it together at ZHHIMG, so your guideways, sensors, optics or fixtures start from a known-good foundation instead of a stack of tolerances to chase down on site.
Why one assembly beats loose parts
Many customers arrive at us after trying to build a datum structure from separate plates, brackets and blocks. It works on paper. On the shop floor, every joint adds a little error, and every error shows up later as drift, rework or a calibration that never quite holds.
Making the base and upright as one coordinated granite assembly takes most of that out. Squareness between the two is verified as a pair. The mounting points are placed in the stone before the final finishing, not drilled in afterwards. You receive something that is ready to bolt your hardware onto.

- • Dense black granite. ZHHIMG® black granite has a density of about 3,100 kg/m³, and the fine grain gives a tight, uniform surface. It is natural stone, not marble, and is chosen for rigidity and long-term dimensional stability.
- • Base and upright as one unit. Squareness and parallelism between the datum surfaces are checked together to your drawing tolerances.
- • Threaded inserts where you need them. Inserts sit in the top and side faces, so rails, brackets, sensors and clamps can be fixed without drilling into your finished surface. Standard metric and custom threads are available.
- • Slots, obround holes and a large window. These can serve as clamping channels, cable routing, a light path or sensor access. We machine them to your layout.
- • Four conical steel support feet. They lift the base off the floor and give a defined, repeatable support position. [Fixed or height-adjustable versions: confirm.]
- • Non-magnetic and rust-free. Granite will not corrode and does not disturb magnetic sensors, which matters in optical and metrology work.
- • Built to your drawing. Size, slot pattern, insert layout and flatness grade are customized.

Is this real granite or marble?
It is black granite. Granite is denser and harder than marble, and it holds its geometry better under load and over time. Ask us for material data if your quality team needs it.
How flat and square can it be?
That depends on the size and the grade you specify. Put your tolerances on the drawing and we will confirm what is achievable and how it will be measured.
Why granite instead of cast iron or steel?
Granite is non-magnetic, does not rust, damps vibration well and is far less sensitive to temperature swings than most metals. Cast iron can still be the better choice when you need high toughness or very complex shapes, so we are happy to talk through the trade-offs.
Can you add inserts, slots and holes to my design?
Yes. Send the drawing or a sketch. We will review the layout and tell you if any feature is risky for the stone, for example holes too close to an edge.
What do you need to quote?
A 2D drawing or 3D model (PDF, DWG or STEP), key tolerances, thread and insert specs, quantity, the application and the destination country.
How is it shipped?
Each piece is protected and packed in an export crate. Tell us your port and we will plan the delivery. [Lead time: confirm.]
