When a machine is out of square, every part it makes inherits the error. A precision granite square ruler gives you a reference you can trust, because the stone does not rust, does not burr and does not drift with the years. The UNPARALLELED® granite master square is cut from dense black granite, lapped by hand and verified with calibrated instruments, so the angle you read on the day of delivery is the angle you can rely on in your lab or on your line.
Squareness is rarely a single number on a drawing. It is the reason a CMM reads true, a linear guide runs without binding and an assembly closes without shims. That is the job of this square: to make that reference simple, stable and easy to defend in an audit.
Our granite is a fine-grained black stone with a density of about 3,100 kg/m³, far from the softer marble that cheaper suppliers sometimes use. Four large lightening holes make the block easier to lift and move, and four labelled reference positions, A to D, help you keep clear records for each face.

- • Lightening holes for easier handling. Four large through-holes cut the weight and give you a safer way to lift and position the block.
- • Clear face identification. Labelled positions A to D make it simple to record which face was used and to keep calibration records tidy.
- • Traceable measurement. We inspect with Mahr indicators (0.5 µm resolution), WYLER electronic levels and Renishaw laser interferometers, and our instruments carry calibration certificates traceable to national standards.
- • Custom sizes and grades. Send your drawing and we will quote the size, accuracy grade and features you need.

What is a granite master square used for? It is a reference for checking right angles. Typical jobs include verifying the squareness of CMM axes, machine guides and rails, and checking machined parts or assemblies against a stable 90° standard.
How do I check squareness with a granite square? Stand the square on a clean reference surface, such as a granite surface plate, and bring a dial indicator or electronic probe against the face you want to test. Read the indicator along the face and compare it with the square's certified values. Always let the square and the part reach the same temperature first.
Why choose granite instead of a steel square? Granite does not rust, does not raise a burr when knocked, is non-magnetic and expands very little with temperature. Steel and cast iron squares are tougher on a shop floor, but for a laboratory or assembly reference, granite is usually the steadier choice.
Is your square made of granite or marble? It is true black granite, with a density of about 3,100 kg/m³. We do not use marble for precision references. Ask us for material and inspection records if you want to verify this before you order.
How often should the square be calibrated? Many laboratories recalibrate every 12 months, and sooner if the square is used heavily or has been knocked. Our certificates are traceable, so recalibration records fit easily into your quality system.
Can you make a custom size or a higher grade? Yes. Send your drawing or tell us the size, accuracy grade and standard you need, and we will confirm what is possible.
What should I include in my request for a quote? Tell us the size, the grade or squareness target, the standard (such as DIN 875), the quantity and your delivery destination. A drawing helps, but even a short description is enough to start.
