- • Dimensional stability. Dense black granite has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and no internal stress problems once it has been properly aged and seasoned, so flatness holds over years instead of drifting.
- • Natural vibration damping. Granite absorbs vibration far better than steel or cast iron. For laser processing, optical inspection and CMM work, that means a calmer platform and cleaner data.
- • Engraved reference grid. The fine grid on the working face helps your assemblers locate stages, rails, sensors and fixtures quickly and check alignment by eye before they pick up an instrument.
- • Built-in mounting points. The hole pattern, whether threaded inserts or through holes [confirm per drawing], is set out against the grid and checked for position, so bolts line up the first time.
- • Machined edge slots. Rounded-corner slots through the full thickness give you clearance for clamps, handling aids, cable runs or fixtures without compromising the bearing surface.
- • No rust, no magnetism. The base will not corrode and does not interfere with magnetic sensors or optical measurements.
- • Fine-ground and lapped surfaces. Working faces are finished to the flatness grade you specify, and edges are broken cleanly to protect both the stone and the people handling it.

Why is granite used for machine bases instead of steel? Granite damps vibration better, expands less with temperature changes, does not rust and holds a lapped surface for years. Steel is stronger in tension and easier to weld, so the right choice depends on the machine. For precision motion and measurement, granite is usually the safer reference.
How flat can a granite base plate be? Flatness depends on plate size, thickness and how it is supported. Smaller plates can be finished to the tightest grades (DIN 876 Grade 00 and 0). Large plates can also reach very tight values, but we quote the achievable grade against your drawing. [confirm size-to-grade table]
Is this plate fitted with threaded inserts or through holes? Both are possible. Threaded inserts suit repeated assembly and heavy loads; through holes suit clamping from below. Send us your bolt sizes and loads and we will recommend the better option.
What is the difference between granite and marble for precision parts? Black granite is denser, harder and less porous than marble, so it resists wear, absorbs far less moisture and holds its geometry. Marble is a decorative stone and is not suitable for precision bases. We can supply test data for the granite we use.
Can you modify my existing drawing? Yes. Our team reviews drawings for feasibility, hole positions, slot radii and tolerance stack-ups, and suggests changes before production.
What do I need to send to get a quote? A drawing (PDF plus STEP/DXF if you have it) with revision number, flatness and positional tolerances, hole and thread specifications, quantity, and the destination port. If you do not have a drawing, send a sketch and the equipment it supports and we will help.
How long does production and delivery take? Lead time depends on size, quantity and finishing grade. Share your quantity and target date and we will confirm a schedule with the quote.
