Stop Buying Fake Granite: How to Spot a Marble Imposter

Why Do Suppliers Use Marble Instead of Granite?
Money. Marble is soft, cheap, and easy to machine. But it’s terrible for precision. It absorbs humidity from the air and expands. If your measuring ruler is made of marble, your tolerance stack-up is already ruined before you start.

How Can You Test Your Granite Base?
Grab a drop of water and put it on the surface. On real high-density granite, it will bead up and stay there. On marble, it will slowly sink in and leave a dark spot. Also, check the weight. Our ≈3100kg/m³ stone is significantly heavier than standard alternatives.
What Are the Risks of Fake Granite?
Thermal instability. If your factory floor heats up by 2 degrees, a marble base will bow. Your CMM will read out of tolerance, and you’ll scrap good parts. Don’t let a $500 saving cost you $50,000 in wasted production.
Why Does ZHHIMG® Guarantee Authenticity?
Because our reputation is built on Integrity. We are ISO9001 certified, and our corporate culture strictly forbids misleading clients. When you buy from us, you are buying a chemical and physical guarantee of black granite.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is all black stone actually granite?
No. Some dark marbles or synthetic resins are dyed black. Always ask for the density specification. If they can’t provide a ≈3100kg/m³ guarantee, walk away.
precision electronic instruments
2. Can I use a magnet to test granite?
Yes! Real granite is completely non-magnetic. If your “granite” straight edge sticks to a magnet, it’s either fake or has hidden steel reinforcements that will cause thermal expansion issues.
3. Does marble wear out faster?
Much faster. Marble is soft. Probe tips will dig microscopic craters into it over time. High-density granite resists this wear, maintaining its Grade 00 accuracy for decades.
4. Why is density so important for precision?
Density equals thermal mass. A dense block takes longer to heat up and cool down. This buffers your precision equipment against daily factory temperature swings.
5. How do you source your black granite?
We own dedicated quarry allocations. We select only the highest-grade blocks with zero micro-fractures. This ensures uniform density across the entire 6000mm length.
6. What if I already bought a fake base?
Don’t panic. Contact us. We can measure it with our laser interferometer to quantify the error. Often, upgrading to a real UNPARALLELED® base pays for itself in reduced scrap rates within months.
