Precision Granite Platform / Surface Plate
You are tightening the last adjustment on a five-axis CNC machine. The temperature in your shop floor shifted three degrees since morning. Your competitor's granite base drifted. Yours didn't.
That is not luck. That is material physics — and it is why precision engineers worldwide trust UNPARALLELED® granite platforms for their most critical measurements.
A granite surface plate is not just a flat rock. It is the zero reference plane against which every other measurement in your facility is validated. When it moves, everything downstream moves with it. That is why we obsess over every variable: raw material density, thermal coefficient, surface finish, and — details most suppliers skip — the grounding inserts that prevent static discharge from skewing your optical instruments.
We have been making precision granite platforms for over two decades. Our customers include semiconductor OEMs in Taiwan, metrology institutes in Germany, and aerospace contractors in the United States. What they share is a non-negotiable requirement: their granite base must not fail them when tolerances are measured in microns.
This is what we build.

1. ZHHIMG® Black Granite — Density You Can Feel
Our granite raw blocks come from quarries we have partnered with for over 15 years. Density at 3,100 kg/m³ means the material absorbs vibration energy that would otherwise propagate into your measurement loop. Light-colored granite or marble — common choices among cost-cutting manufacturers — has density closer to 2,700 kg/m³ and far inferior damping characteristics. We refuse to use marble or look-alike stone. That is a promise.
2. Thermal Stability That Works While You Sleep
When a semiconductor fab runs 24/7, temperature cycles are a fact of life. Our granite platforms maintain their reference plane across a wide operating temperature range, because granite's thermal expansion coefficient is roughly one-tenth that of steel. The result: fewer re-calibrations, less scrap, and measurements you can trust at shift change.
3. Grounding Inserts — The Detail That Saves Expensive Instruments
Static discharge is invisible until it damages something. In an optical metrology environment, a single ESD event can corrupt a laser interferometer reading or degrade a photomask inspection. Our side-mounted grounding inserts provide a defined electrical path. You know where the charge goes — and more importantly, where it does not go.
4. Flatness Maintained by Craftspeople, Not Just Machines
Our grinding masters — with 30+ years of hands-on experience — can feel the difference between 0.8 μm/m and 1.0 μm/m through the hand scrape. This is not romantic exaggeration; it is sensory training built over decades. Each platform passes through manual inspection before it passes through our autocollimator. Two sets of eyes — human and instrument — before it ships.
5. Standards You Recognize, Certificates You Can Verify
We certify flatness against: DIN 876, ASME B89.7.3.1, JIS B7513, GB/T 20428, BS 817, and GOST 10905. Calibration reports are traceable to the National Institute of Metrology (NIM) of China. If your customer or quality auditor asks for documentation, we have it ready.
6. Maximum Size — Where Others Stop, We Continue
While most manufacturers cap out at 3,000 mm length, UNPARALLELED® regularly machines platforms up to 20,000 mm in length using our fleet of four large-format Taiwan-made Nantex grinders. If your application demands a 10-meter granite base for a large-format laser cutting machine or a flat panel display inspection system, we are one of the few shops in the world that can deliver it.
We use various techniques during this process:
● Optical measurements with autocollimators
● Laser interferometers and laser trackers
● Electronic inclination levels (precision spirit levels)
1. Documents together with products: Inspection reports + Calibration reports(measuring devices) + Quality Certificate + Invoice + Packing List + Contract + Bill of Lading(or AWB).

Q: What is the difference between Grade 00, Grade 0, and Grade 1 granite surface plate?
A: Grade 00 offers the tightest flatness tolerance (≤ 0.5 μm/m) and is used in national metrology institutes and calibration laboratories where traceability to international standards is mandatory. Grade 0 (≤ 1.0 μm/m) is the workhorse of CMM rooms and precision inspection labs. Grade 1 (≤ 2.0 μm/m) is suitable for workshop floor inspection, machine assembly, and educational environments. Most commercial metrology labs specify Grade 0 as the minimum.
Q: Why do some granite surface plates have metal inserts on the sides?
A: The metal inserts serve two purposes: structural reinforcement of the edge profile, and electrical grounding. In metrology environments with optical instruments, laser systems, or electron-beam equipment, static charge buildup on the granite surface can cause measurement errors or ESD damage. Grounded inserts provide a defined discharge path. If your equipment has grounding requirements specified in your OEM drawings, we manufacture to those specifications.
Q: How do I know if the granite is real granite and not marble?
A: Three quick checks: First, request the density specification. Genuine granite has density between 2,600–3,100 kg/m³ depending on composition. Marble is typically 2,300–2,800 kg/m³. Second, check the thermal expansion coefficient — granite expands at roughly 5–7 × 10⁻⁶ /°C; marble is closer to 14–17 × 10⁻⁶ /°C. Third, ask for the source quarry and geological report. We provide material certificates for every block we use.
Q: Can you manufacture custom sizes beyond your standard catalog?
A: Yes. Our maximum single-piece machining capability is 20,000 mm × 4,000 mm × 1,000 mm. We routinely produce non-standard lengths and thicknesses for specific machine OEM requirements. Lead time for custom sizes is typically 6–10 weeks depending on availability of raw blocks in the required dimensions.
Q: How is the granite surface plate packaged and shipped?
A: Each platform is wrapped in VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) film to prevent surface oxidation during transit, then nested in reinforced wooden crates with shock monitoring sensors. For overseas shipments, we use 20-foot or 40-foot containers with专业的防震固定方案. We have delivered granite platforms to ports in Hamburg, Rotterdam, Singapore, Los Angeles, and Busan without a single damage claim in the past 24 months.
Q: What documents do you provide with the granite platform shipment?
A: Every shipment includes: dimensional inspection report, flatness measurement report (autocollimator data), material certificate (density, mineral composition), thermal coefficient documentation, grounding insert location drawings, and calibration certificate traceable to NIM. If you require additional documentation such as FEA (finite element analysis) reports for machine mounting, we can provide those on request.
