The ZHHIMG® Precision Granite Straightedge is manufactured from dense black granite and precision-finished for use in metrology, machine installation, quality inspection, and high-accuracy assembly work.
This solid granite straight ruler provides a stable reference face for checking straightness and flatness on machine beds, linear guideways, granite surface plates, precision fixtures, optical platforms, and structural components. Unlike a conventional steel straightedge, granite is non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant, and less affected by everyday shop-floor humidity. It does not rust, does not burr in the same way as metal, and provides a clean, stable contact surface for repeatable inspection.
Each ZHHIMG granite measuring straightedge can be supplied according to customer drawings, required dimensions, accuracy grade, working-face configuration, and inspection documentation requirements. Precision granite tools are valued for their thermal stability, wear resistance, and long-term geometric reliability. However, every metrology tool is influenced by environmental conditions.
Granite has a coefficient of thermal expansion, meaning its dimensions will change as temperature changes. The exact value depends on the specific granite material and should be confirmed for applications with demanding thermal requirements. For long straightedges, temperature gradients can influence the measured result. A tool taken directly from a warmer workshop into a controlled laboratory should be allowed to stabilize before calibration or critical inspection.
Hardness also matters. Granite is resistant to normal wear, but it is not indestructible. Dropping the straightedge, dragging it across abrasive surfaces, striking its working face with metal parts, or storing it on uneven supports can damage its accuracy. Good practice includes clean handling, correct support points, protective storage, and periodic calibration.
For surface plates, DIN 876 is commonly used to define flatness grades. For granite straightedges and granite measuring bars, DIN 874 and other applicable specifications may be more relevant depending on the tool geometry and intended use. The correct standard should always be confirmed in the quotation and purchase specification.

What is a precision granite straightedge used for?

Does the product include a calibration or inspection report?
A test report is available for ZHHIMG granite measuring products. If you require a specific error map, material-analysis report, certificate of conformity, calibration information, or third-party verification, state this clearly at the quotation stage.
How should a granite straightedge be stored?
Store the straightedge on stable, properly positioned supports in a clean and dry location. Keep its working face protected from dust, impact, sharp metal contact, and uneven loading. For critical measuring work, allow the tool to reach thermal equilibrium before use.
