Custom Precision Granite Component with Circular Recess & Threaded Inserts | ZHHIMG®
In ultra-precision equipment, the base is never “just a base.” It establishes the reference from which guideways, optical modules, cameras, sensors, rotary systems, vacuum tooling, and measuring elements are aligned.
The ZHHIMG® custom precision granite component shown here is built for that purpose. Its circular cavity can create a protected installation zone or a controlled locating interface, while its machined mounting faces and integrated threaded inserts simplify the assembly of complex electromechanical systems.
For OEM equipment builders, this approach can reduce the need for secondary brackets, welded frames, or repeated re-machining during assembly. Instead, the granite component becomes a stable platform with the required geometry already built in: mounting holes, inserts, recesses, channels, access openings, reference faces, and customer-defined interfaces.
Precision granite is widely used as a structural and metrology foundation in CMM systems, optical inspection equipment, laser machines, semiconductor handling systems, high-accuracy automation equipment, and other applications where stable mounting interfaces matter. Custom granite components can be manufactured with drilled holes, grooves, metal inserts, guideway interfaces, and other assembly features according to OEM drawings.

Stable black granite structure
The component uses dense black granite selected for precision structural applications. Granite is valued in precision engineering because it can be processed into stable reference faces and integrated with mounting interfaces, guideways, and mechanical assemblies. In CMM and optical measuring systems, granite structures are used to support cameras, lenses, guideways, worktables, linear motors, encoders, fixtures, and other precision modules.
Circular recess designed around your assembly
The circular pocket is not a cosmetic feature. It can be engineered to locate a rotary module, optical fixture, vacuum chamber interface, bearing-related structure, inspection device, or protected mounting assembly. Its diameter, depth, transition radii, shoulder face, concentricity, and reference relationship can all be controlled according to the functional drawing.
Integrated threaded inserts
The silver-colored inserts visible in the image allow mounted equipment to be fixed directly to the granite body. This gives designers more freedom to combine granite with metal, aluminum, stainless steel, ceramic, motion-control, optical, and pneumatic components.
Possible insert configurations include:
- • Metric or imperial thread standards.
- • Stainless steel, aluminum, or customer-specified insert materials.
- • Flush, recessed, or controlled-height installation.
- • Insert patterns for motors, rails, guards, covers, sensors, brackets, and cable supports.
- • Threaded lifting inserts where appropriate and approved during structural design.
- • Pull-out and torque requirements agreed during engineering review.

Instead of sourcing a plain stone plate and then adding metal brackets, adapters, drilling operations, and assembly modifications elsewhere, ZHHIMG® can produce a granite component that combines multiple functional requirements in one engineered structure:

Is the pictured granite component a standard product?
No. The picture illustrates a custom precision granite component with a circular recess, multiple drilled holes, and integrated threaded inserts. The final configuration is produced according to the customer’s design, functional requirements, and accepted technical specification.
Can ZHHIMG® machine holes, grooves, pockets, and openings in granite?
Yes. Custom precision granite components can include drilled holes, clearance holes, threaded inserts, grooves, slots, recesses, cutouts, cable channels, pneumatic passages, vacuum interfaces, and machined datum surfaces. The available feature geometry depends on component size, granite structure, edge distance, insert design, tolerance, and functional requirement.
Can threaded inserts be installed in granite?
Yes. Threaded inserts can be bonded into precision granite to provide reliable mounting points for fixtures and machine components. ZHHIMG® offers different insert materials and installation heights according to the application. The type, thread size, embedment depth, tightening torque, pull-out requirement, and position should be confirmed during engineering review.
Can you make the insert surface flush with the granite surface?
Yes, this can be specified. Depending on the project, inserts can be installed slightly recessed, flush, or at a controlled height relative to the granite surface. Flushness requirements should be clearly stated on the drawing because they affect machining, bonding, measurement, and final acceptance.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide the 2D drawing or 3D model, overall dimensions, granite grade or preferred material, tolerance requirements, hole and insert details, required inspection documentation, expected load, application, quantity, destination, and target delivery date.
Can you provide an inspection report?
Yes. The inspection scope can be agreed based on the drawing and critical features. Typical records may include overall dimensions, flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity, hole locations, recess geometry, insert positions, surface finish, and customer-specific inspection items.
Is this suitable for a cleanroom or semiconductor application?
It can be designed for such applications, but suitability depends on the full system requirement. Please specify the cleanroom classification, particle-control requirements, compatible materials, assembly process, sealing needs, vacuum or air connections, and cleaning requirements before manufacturing.
Can ZHHIMG® assemble metal or motion components onto the granite part?
Yes. Subject to the project scope, ZHHIMG® can support granite component machining, insert installation, mating-part interfaces, preliminary assembly, and inspection of integrated precision assemblies. Please provide the bill of materials, assembly drawing, supplied components, and required test criteria.
