Shandong, China — ZHHIMG® (Zhonghui Group), a precision granite components and granite surface plate manufacturer headquartered in Jinan, has completed the installation of four large-format grinding machines from Taiwan Nantong, each valued at over USD 500,000. The new equipment allows ZHHIMG to grind metal and non-metal precision platforms up to 6,000mm in length, further expanding the company’s capacity to produce ultra-large granite bases for the semiconductor, CMM, and precision measuring equipment industries.
Why this matters for precision manufacturing
As demand grows for larger measuring platforms — particularly in semiconductor inspection, CMM (coordinate measuring machine) systems, and optical detection equipment such as AOI and industrial CT — the ability to grind oversized granite surface plates to nanometer-level flatness has become a key differentiator among granite base suppliers. Most workshops in the industry are limited to grinding platforms under 3,000–4,000mm; ZHHIMG’s new Nantong grinders push that ceiling to 6,000mm, giving customers more flexibility when designing large-format inspection and assembly systems.
The four grinders are installed in ZHHIMG’s constant-temperature, constant-humidity workshop, a 10,000㎡ facility built specifically to maintain measurement stability during high-precision granite processing. The workshop floor is poured with ultra-hard concrete no less than 1,000mm thick, and is surrounded by anti-vibration trenches 500mm wide and 2,000mm deep to isolate the grinding area from external vibration. Overhead cranes inside the workshop are silent-operation models, chosen specifically to avoid disturbing the measurement environment during grinding and inspection.
Backed by traceable calibration
Every granite surface plate and granite measuring ruler produced on the new equipment is verified using ZHHIMG’s in-house metrology lab, which includes German Mahr dial indicators (0.5μm), Mitutoyo digital calipers and roughness testers, Swiss WYLER electronic levels, and UK Renishaw laser interferometers. All instruments carry calibration certificates issued by the Jinan and Shandong Institutes of Metrology, with traceability to national calibration authorities — a standard ZHHIMG applies across its granite components, granite air bearings, and granite square rulers as well.
Capacity for large-scale orders
With four production lines already dedicated to precision granite machine bases, ZHHIMG currently produces around 20,000 sets of granite precision beds per month. The addition of the Nantong grinders is expected to increase the company’s share of large-format orders — particularly for customers in semiconductor equipment, linear motor stages, and new-energy battery inspection systems, where oversized granite platforms are increasingly required.
