Precision Granite Mounting Block with Machined Through-Holes | ZHHIMG®

Short Description:

Engineers typically spec this kind of granite mounting block wherever a sensor, fixture, or positioning stage needs a rigid, thermally stable interface point — underneath optical inspection heads on AOI lines, as a mounting interface for air bearing stage components, inside CMM fixture assemblies, or as a stable riser block within larger granite base assemblies for semiconductor and battery inspection equipment. In each case, the requirement is the same: whatever sits on top of this block needs the block itself to be a non-variable in the measurement or positioning chain.

    Precision You Can Actually Verify

Most mounting blocks look fine in a spec sheet. Few hold their geometry after five years of thermal cycling and daily mechanical load. That's the gap this granite mounting block is built to close.

Machined from ZHHIMG®'s high-density black granite — measured density approximately 3,100 kg/m³, noticeably denser than standard commercial granite or marble substitutes sometimes passed off as "precision grade" — this block is designed as a stable, non-deforming interface for equipment where positional accuracy can't drift over time. Four precision-bored through-holes, symmetrically positioned in a 2×2 pattern, allow direct mounting to a machine frame, fixture assembly, or sensor housing without introducing secondary adapters that would otherwise add tolerance stack-up.

Unlike cast metal alternatives, this block carries no internal casting stress. It won't creep, warp, or slowly release residual stress the way a machined cast iron equivalent can over years of service — which is exactly why granite has become the default base material across CMMs, optical inspection systems, semiconductor handling stages, and air bearing assemblies.

Why Engineers Keep Specifying Granite Over Metal Here

    • •   No casting stress, no long-term drift. A granite block that measures flat on day one stays flat — cast metal alternatives can still be releasing internal stress five or ten years after machining.
    • •   Lower thermal expansion than cast iron or aluminum. With a coefficient roughly half that of cast iron, this block introduces less dimensional error per degree of ambient temperature swing — a real factor in fab environments and non-climate-controlled installations.
    • •   Higher vibration damping than metal equivalents. The dense crystalline structure absorbs mechanical noise that would otherwise transmit through a metal block into whatever it's mounted to.
    • •   Direct mounting geometry. Four symmetric through-holes mean this block bolts straight into position without adapter plates — fewer interfaces, fewer tolerance stack-ups, less assembly time.
    • •   Full traceability per unit. The identification plate ties each block back to its own inspection data, not a generic batch claim.

    Quality Control

We use various techniques during this process:

    ●  Optical measurements with autocollimators

    ●  Laser interferometers and laser trackers

    ●  Electronic inclination levels (precision spirit levels)

    FAQ

Is this made from real precision-grade granite, not marble? Yes. Density is verifiable — precision-grade black granite runs close to 3,100 kg/m³, while marble typically sits around 2,600–2,700 kg/m³. We provide density test documentation with every order on request.

Can the hole pattern or dimensions be customized? Yes. This configuration (4 through-holes, 2×2 pattern) is a standard layout, but hole diameter, spacing, block dimensions, and thread specifications can be customized to match your mounting interface. Send us your drawing or a reference part.

What flatness grade can you certify? Flatness grade is confirmed per DIN 876 (or ASME B89 / JIS B 7513 depending on your regional standard) and verified using laser interferometry and calibrated electronic levels, with calibration traceable to a national metrology institute.

How long does a custom order take? Lead time depends on grade and finishing requirements — higher flatness grades (00/0) require additional hand-finishing time. Contact us with your specification for an accurate lead time.

Do you provide inspection reports with each shipment? Yes. Each unit ships with batch-specific inspection data tied to the identification plate fixed to the part, not a generic product-line certificate.
