Precision Granite Square Cube — Multi-Face Mounting Reference Block
The part in front of you is a solid black granite cube, machined on all six faces to a common reference standard and fitted with recessed cross-slot mounting holes on three visible sides. The surface has that unmistakable dense, fine-grain black granite texture — almost velvet under raking light, with the faint mineral speckling that distinguishes genuine gabbro-based black granite from dyed or lower-grade stone. Edges are sharp and clean, not chamfered into softness, which tells you the piece was ground rather than merely polished. Each mounting hole uses a four-lobed clover profile rather than a plain round bore — a fixturing detail that lets a bolt or dowel seat and index at a repeatable rotational position, useful when a fixture needs to come off and go back on without losing its reference orientation.
This isn't a decorative object. It's a working reference cube — the kind of component that sits quietly inside a CMM setup, an optical alignment rig, or a semiconductor assembly fixture, doing one job: giving every face a known, stable, mutually perpendicular datum that doesn't drift with temperature or vibration the way a machined metal block eventually does.

Is this cube made from natural granite or an engineered composite? Natural black granite, quarried and finished stone — not resin composite or mineral casting. Density and mineral structure are verifiable on request.
Can hole positions and thread sizes be customized? Yes. The pattern shown is one configuration; hole count, position, thread size, and which faces are populated are adjusted to match a customer's fixture or mounting drawing.
What tolerance can this be finished to? Flatness and perpendicularity are specified per project — sub-micron finishes are achievable for reference-grade applications, with standard commercial tolerances available for general fixturing use where extreme precision isn't required.
How is squareness between faces actually verified? Face-to-face perpendicularity is checked with electronic levels and laser interferometry, with calibration equipment traceable to national metrology institute standards rather than an unverified internal gauge.
Does granite need any special handling or maintenance compared to a metal fixture? It's more impact-sensitive at edges and corners than steel, so handling with padded fixtures during transport and installation is advisable. Otherwise, it needs no coating, lubrication, or corrosion protection.
What sizes are available? Custom dimensions are standard practice — commonly in the 100–400 mm cube range, with larger or smaller sizes producible depending on grinding equipment capacity and application requirements.
